Through customized logistics and creative budget solutions, we provided Jacksonville University Women’s Basketball Team with a memorable and cost-effective experience during the Summer of Thunder tournament in the Bahamas.
In Summer 2016, Jacksonville University’s women’s basketball team participated in the Bahamas Basketball Federation’s Summer of Thunder tournament. Despite financial limitations, the team was eager to make the most of their experience, both on and off the court. Ballin’ By Da Beach delivered a creative, budget-friendly plan that not only met their logistical needs but also provided opportunities for cultural enrichment and meaningful community service.

Jacksonville University Women’s Basketball Team
Role:
Event Logistics, Community Engagement, and Media Coordinator
With limited funding, the team required creative solutions for accommodations, meals, and local transportation. Additionally, they wanted to maximize their cultural exposure and give back to the local community while focusing on their performance in the tournament.
Ballin’ By Da Beach developed a customized plan to ensure a memorable, cost-effective experience, combining the best of Bahamian hospitality with high-level sports logistics:
Instead of traditional hotels, we secured a local Airbnb that offered more value for the team’s budget. The accommodation came with premium amenities, including a private pool and beach access, providing the team a serene and comfortable environment to relax and bond.
While catering was largely coordinated by the team’s own connections, Ballin’ By Da Beach contributed by preparing some team meals, adding a personalized touch to the culinary experience and enhancing their time off the court.
A highlight of the trip was the team’s community service project at the Children’s Emergency Hostel, where the players spent a day engaging with local children. This opportunity to connect with the community through games, conversations, and mentorship left a lasting impact on both the team and the children.
As part of their community outreach, we organized a free basketball camp for over 100 local boys and girls. This allowed the team to share their skills, inspire young athletes, and make a meaningful contribution to the community.
Off the court, we arranged a variety of cultural experiences, including beach outings, jet skiing, and dining at local restaurants. These activities allowed the team to explore the beauty of the Bahamas while strengthening team camaraderie.
To boost the team’s visibility, we organized media coverage through local radio stations and news outlets, ensuring their involvement in the Summer of Thunder received widespread attention.
We worked closely with the Bahamas Basketball Federation to ensure the team had a well-matched opponent, providing a competitive yet rewarding experience during the tournament.
The Jacksonville University women’s basketball team enjoyed a rich, well-rounded experience, balancing competition with cultural immersion and community service. Key outcomes included:
